MAN successfully expands external engine business

MAN Nutzfahrzeuge has secured three orders in the rail industry to supply 3,200 engines worth hundreds of millions. The engines are to be delivered from next year onward until 2020. This allows MAN Nutzfahrzeuge to systematically expand its external engine business further.
French train maker Alstom relies on MAN engines to run its new Coradia Polyvalent railcar with diesel-electric drive. French rail operator SNCF will employ the train in France, with the first set to be completed in 2011. French rolling stock manufacturer Socofer is replacing the old drives in its switchers with MAN’s eco-friendly diesel engines. World’s largest ferry employs MAN common-rail technology

New high-end ferry for Mediterranean routes to boast MAN engines and propellers
Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co., Ltd. of Korea, one of the world’s largest and most innovative shipyards, has ordered four common-rail 12V48/60CR propulsion engines from MAN Diesel & Turbo SE. The prime movers will power a new high-end ferry for Tunisian ship owner Compagnie Tunisienne de Navigation (COTUNAV).
The ferry will have a capacity of 3,200 passengers and 1,060 vehicles, and a top speed of 27.5 knots. At 210 x 30 m, the vessel will be the world’s largest ferry and contain a shopping centre, restaurants, swimming pool and multiple entertainment facilities. Delivery is due in the first half of 2012. MAN Diesel & Turbo supplies eco-friendly engines for new North Sea ferries

Natural gas – the fuel of the future

Augsburg-based manufacturer of large-bore diesel engines and turboma-chinery, MAN Diesel & Turbo, has received an order from the Norwegian shipyard Bergen Group Fosen for a total of 14 large-bore diesel engines. MAN Diesel & Turbo will be supplying eight main engines and six auxiliary engines together with two gearboxes from MAN subsidiary Renk AG for the construction of two new ferries. The engines will initially be operated with conventional fuel, and then from 2016, switched to operation with eco-friendly natural gas.
